Looking for More Players,

What is a Role-Playing Game? It's story telling, co-operative improvisational story telling. One person (the Dungeon Master or Referee) guides the game along a set of plot lines using a framework of rules to decide the outcome of the actions and decisions that the players undertake. Dungeons & Dragons? Isn't that Devil Worship?Don't be silly, that's just the religious right blowing certain fictional elements, of a game of fiction out of proportion, it's just a story. You, the players, are most often heroes, forces for good in the fictional world of the game story. There are inevitably bad guys, and maybe (but not always) forces of evil. In a fantasy world some of these bad guys or monsters might occasionally be described as demons or devils. Do you dress up?No and NO! That's LARP (Live Action Role-Playing), LARPers are the loonies that run around in the woods waving their rubber swords at each other. We play in an informal setting in someone's living room, with pens, paper, dice, lots of chat, laughs and snacks, just wear your ordinary casual clothes. Is it just Fantasy, Swords and Magic?Dungeons & Dragons is specifically a fantasy setting with magic, but there are other role-playing games, such as Traveller set in a science-fiction future setting, and other games such as SpyCraft set in the present day as spies in a game of espionage, and some games based on popular fictional television series. What game is the "Sentinels" group playing? We have started with "Pathfinder RPG", a revised version of "Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e", playing some one off adventures that may well develop into an on-going campaign with a bigger backstory. But we expect to diversify and occasionally play other games at times. Do I need to buy the rules? How much will it cost? No, all the rules will be provided by someone at the game. Though if you enjoy it so much you'll probably want to buy your own set of dice, and maybe eventually the one main rulebook. Just bring yourself along and come with a large dose of imagination. Though a bag of sweets, snacks or biscuits will always win you a few friends. |
